The Jokers Wild (01/02)

Play Synopsis

Hans and Heidi have been caught cheating at cards again, so it is time they learnt a lesson. The Grand Shuffler bans the Aces of Spades, Hearts & Diamonds from the pack, but he has a problem; the Joker has become wild and plans to cast a spell on the Grand Dream Giver to deliver only bad dreams. The Grand Shuffler challengers Hans and Heidi to find the answer to the three truths so that the Aces can be returned to the pack and the Joker controlled. Hans and Heidi, with the help of the Ace of Clubs, must travel to the Land of the Bogels, the Land of the Dryads, and the Land of Dreams. Can they find the three truths, solve the riddle, and stop the Jokers evil scheme? Will there ever be good dreams again? Fantasy with fabulous roles for boys and girls.

Murder Mystery is a contemporary black comedy that is a play within a play. It is written by Cassandra Linares, one of Acting Antics Advanced students, and will be work-shopped and performed by the advanced troupe in January 2018 under the direction and guidance of Paul Percy. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young actors to not only perform a new work but to be part of the developmental process.

Play Synopsis

The 3 big bad wolves have finally retired from being bad and have started a business as private detectives. They have high hopes for their new venture, especially as they have the very efficient Miss Nolan to run the office. Things are a little slow to start with, but change rather dramatically when they have to do battle with the impetuous 3 little pigs, the not so nice Red & Ruby Riding Hood, and of course Peter of “Peter and the Wolf” fame. What are Mother Pig, Mother Hood & Grandfather so annoyed about that they need the help of “Wolf, Wolf & Wolf”? Will the 3 Wolves stay strong and good, or will they revert to their old selves? Who really learns a lesson in this funny quirky comedy?

Old Mother Hubbard has had to sell the cupboard to cover Mother Goose’s horse racing debts, and now they have to move! Seemingly depressed and just for luck, Mother Hubbard gambles the last of her money on a lottery ticket the day before they move. And guess what, she wins, but it’s from the frying pan into the fire, turmoil hits the nursery rhyme world! Mother Hubbard wants a fancy condo on Bondi Beach but the rest just want to stay in Belconnen! No one can agree on what to do with the winnings, that is until Puss and Boots, Attorney-at-Law, comes to the rescue. But does he? Is Puss and Boots the hero Mother Hubbard is hoping for?

Candy loves to dance but unfortunately her stepsisters won’t let her. It is the night of the Dance Championships & Stepmother is determined her daughters will win. What tricks will their manager, Varian, come up with to ensure this? What has happened to the Chili Babes main rival, The Candy Girls (Sugar, Spice and Cinnamon)? Will the Dance Fairy arrive in time to help Candy dance? Can Detective Inspectors D1 and D2 find “the girl who lost her shoe” and get the championships back on track and who will Senor Norberto, the adjudicator, choose as the winners? Great acting roles for boys & girls, fun dance routines & fabulous costumes!

Play Synopsis

Minty & Monty, two talking mice, live in Fran & Fritz’s toyshop with Tick & Tock, two clocks that never stop arguing. One day a very spoilt boy called Romus steals a toy soldier from the toyshop. Minty & Monty agree to help Soldier’s friends, Indian, Ballerina, Clown, Robot, Train & Rag Doll, to rescue Soldier, however, will the wicked cats TC, BC and AKA, who live in the ally by the toyshop stop them? What plan do they have to teach Romas that stealing is not a very nice thing to do? Perhaps a toy court is the answer, with Tick & Tock as the Judge and Defence Council. But, will Tick & Tock stop arguing long enough to come to a decision and will they find Romus guilty or innocent?

Elle’s been arrested for fraud, accused of running a “ponzy” scheme from her home. She’s very upset because although she always wanted a pony, she was never allowed one, so how can she be guilty of running a “ponzy” scheme! And who’s the new boarder that’s shifted into the barn next door in a big fancy Winnebago? Talk about shifty! Elle smells a rat, or is it horse pooh? The struggle is now on for Elle to prove her innocence and clear her name. Who is behind this “ponzy thingy” … thing … that’s not a horse, because a horse is a horse of cause and nobody can talk to a horse of cause unless the horse is … the new boarder that’s just had a phone installed in the barn!!!

Of course the question on everyone’s lips is… will Bobby select Kate as his prom Queen? Great costumes and musical numbers!

Blitzen has put his hoof down and refuses to be ZAPPED, in fact he refuses to be zapped ever again! This creates a HUGE problem for Santa, as Blitzen’s antlers are Santa’s GPS! Once again Blitzen has set the cat amongst the pigeons, or to put it bluntly, annoyed not just the Elves, but the Reindeer Council as well. Will Christmas have to be canceled or can Captain Dasher and the Elf Toymakers save the day? What will happen when the Reindeer Council passes sentence on Blitzen and the rebel reindeer? So much to do and so much confusion, especially when Ollie, Head of Elf Logistics, gets involved!

There’s only one thing to do and that’s to prove they are both wrong! But how, that’s the problem. Well it was a problem until they find Santa himself sitting on a street corner. He’s a bit worse for wear but they take him home anyway, because there’s nothing like the real deal to prove both parents wrong… or is there?
